Birthday wish lists go through phases, and as it turns out, they're cyclical. As a kid, you want fun and frivolous things — toys and electronics and all the trendy clothes that will be out of style in three months. Then you hit that boring period where you ask for (and actually want) that fancy new vacuum and that smart home thermostat that promises to lower your heating bills by 10 percent. But then you get to a certain age where it's OK to be fun and frivolous again...
For Ivena Smailes, that age happens to be 105.
When you reach your 105th birthday, I think we can all agree that you should get anything and everything on your wish list. Even (and especially) if that's a hot tattooed fireman delivering your birthday cake.
That's just what "Aunty Ivy," a resident of the Addison Court Care Home in Crawcrook, England, wished for this year, and thanks to the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, her wish came true. Not only did a group of firemen deliver her cake, but one birthday hero climbed a ladder to her third-story room and came through the window to do so.
Of course, the birthday girl played it cool as her cake was presented, and blew out her candles like a pro. At 105, she could teach these firefighters a thing or two about staying calm in the face of extreme heat. (See what I did there? They're firemen... fire is hot... they're hot firemen... OK, I'm done.)
Anyone else frantically revising their birthday wish lists?
